Summary of Responsibilities:

The St. Louis Cardinals Publications Department is seeking two enterprising and energetic students for their Vendor Internship, which will take place during the 2019 baseball season (regular and potential postseason)*. This internship is designed to assist the Publications Department supervise sales of the team's flagship publication, Cardinals Magazine, as well as the Cardinals Yearbook and Scorecard, through serving as game day vendors and sales strategists. Through this internship students will gain business-level Publications and Sales experience through duties that include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing plans to maximize Publications sales, which will culminate with the presentation of a comprehensive season-end analysis of the department's overall in-park operations.

* Students must be available to work at least 90 percent of the remaining Cardinals home games this season (averaging five hours per game) and provide post-game reports from each game as assigned.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Evaluate current Publications selling strategies during games and implement selling strategies that can aid in increased game day revenue.
  • Sell products at gates during most games, and observe vendors and provide in-the-moment feedback during other games.
  • Observe vendors, review promotional practices and examine sales data to aid in the formulation and execution of fresh, new selling and marketing strategies, and make adjustments to current ones.
  • Meet regularly with the Publications Department for guidance and discussion regarding the improvements of in-park sales performances throughout the season.
  • Assist the Publications Department with any other administrative and/or game day duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Current enrollment at an accredited college or university with a minimum junior level status, with a major in Sports Business Management, PR, Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field
  • Must be eligible to complete internship for academic credit
  • Prior retail/customer service experience with superior organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and money-management skills
