Area Scout

Responsibilities:

• Schedule and observe amateur baseball activities within the assigned territory
• Plan and organize workouts, tryouts and showcase events for organization to evaluate players
• Evaluate players, qualifying their current skills and projecting potential.
• Communicate evaluations to the organization using a laptop scouting system.
• Visit players homes and assess character and willingness to play professional baseball.
• Project a professional image as a representative of the organization.
• Build positive relationships with players, parents, trainers, coaches, and others that facilitate a scouting network.
• Film qualified prospects and upload using the internet.
• Perform other special duties as assigned by the Director such as Summer Amateur Coverage, Summer Pro Coverage and various training or developmental exercises.

Requirements:

• Qualified applicants must be self-motivated, well organized, detail-oriented and have an ability to act according to the organizational values at all times
• Previous baseball experience as player, coach, scout, or management preferred
• Advanced knowledge of baseball scouting terminology, baseball statistics and sabermetric principles are preferred
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Chrome
• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate complex material to individuals with a varying range of background at an appropriate level
• Ability to work extensive hours, evenings, and weekends required and must be able and willing to travel
• Must reside in, or move to, the region where they will be working
• Understanding of video equipment and filming techniques desired
