Baseball Development - Data Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Cardinals are looking for a Data Engineer to join their Baseball Development team. The Baseball Development team is responsible for all analytics and application development in support of the Baseball Operations department. This will be a full-time, entry level position. This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining and optimizing the application, database, and data pipeline architectures.

 Essential Funtions of the job:

• Create, maintain and optimize data ETL pipelines
• Identify, design and implement system improvements
• Prototype and implement applications alongside other developers
• Prepare data and build related tools for analysts
• Diagnose, test and resolve issues, as necessary
• Document existing data processes
• Investigate new system technologies and make recommendations on their implementation
• Collaborate with other baseball operations staff, including coaches and scouts, to improve existing workflows

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering/similar field or equivalent work experience
• Candidates in school expecting to graduate Winter 2018 or Spring 2019 with work towards such degrees will also be considered
• Proficient in one or more general programming languages (such as Java, C/C++, Go, Python, or JavaScript)
• Proficient with SQL and relational databases (such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server)
• Prior work with web application and/or mobile development (iOS and/or Android)
• Familiarity with NoSQL or other big data tools (such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Presto)
• Familiarity with scripting and statistical programming languages (such as Python or R)
• Interest in learning and applying new technologies and programming languages
• Familiarity with advanced baseball metrics and research
• Strong communication, problem-solving skills and work ethic
