Director of Community Relations

Summary of Responsibilities

The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking candidates for the Director of Community Relations (CR) Position. The purpose of this position is to lead and oversee all aspects of the Community Relations department, while positioning the Cardinals as an active member of the community. This Director will also manage the goal of increasing the team's visibility as it pertains to community impact and the positive impact on the lives of those in the community.   The position will manage current/future Community Relations programs, events, initiatives and personnel, and work closely with Cardinals Care (CC) on various overall departmental activities, events and initiatives.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Manage, oversee, develop, challenge, encourage, and maintain all community relations direct report positions and periodically manage subordinate Cardinals Care positions and Cardinals Care volunteers
  • Work with VP to strengthen and expand current CR and MLB community programs
  • Work with VP in order to increase Cardinals impact in the community and develop new community initiatives
  • Collaborate with VP and CC Director to manage community and foundation appearances/involvement for Cardinals uniformed personnel
  • Develop and produce annual report for Community Relations department
  • Work with CC Director to support CC programs, events, and fundraising efforts. Includes managing CC staff and volunteers and supplying CR staff in support, as needed
  • Assist VP with CR budget, be responsible for monthly tracking, and analyze, organize and oversee the costs and expenditures for the Community Relations Department
  • Develop partnerships with corporate entities that will provide financial assistance to CR and CC programs, events and initiatives
  • Work with Corporate Sales to identify new partners and/or incorporate community initiatives with current partners
  • Support VIP relations (Sponsors, Stadium events, Community events, Celebrity events)
  • Provide oversight in the management, maintenance and development of the following programs: Education Programs, Kids Club, Cardinals Wives programs, Community correspondence, Komen Race team, Red Cross Blood drive, Make a wish, Community Ticket Program, Player ticket program

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field; or a combination of experience and education
  • 5+ years of experience in community work
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate partner development
  • 3+ years in a managerial position
  • Experience with planning, forecasting, and financial/budgeting skills
  • Strong ability to motivate personnel
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong PR and presentation skills/verbal and interpersonal
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Very effective management and delegation
  • Very effective decision making
  • Strong organization & time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong editing skills for multiple mediums
  • Ability to maintain confidential information/discretion
  • Strong relationship building skills

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Business or related field; or a combination of experience and education
  • 7+ years of experience in community work
  • 7+ years of experience in corporate partner development
  • 5+ years in a managerial position
  • Familiarity of the grant process
