Freelance Multimedia Editing Specialist

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Freelance Multimedia Editing Specialist is an experienced video editor with an eye for detail and video storytelling. With experience using Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects, the Multimedia Editing Specialist supports the Multimedia Communications unit by editing assigned stories on deadline and following protocols of media workflow from import to archive. Intermediate to advanced Spanish-language skills preferred. In-field production skills helpful. This position reports to the Multimedia Video Communications Supervisor.

Essential Functions of the Job:

 

  • Serve as the support video and post-production editor of 1-2 stories per week for Cardinals Insider television show and/or social media channels
  • Using video production skills to assist the multimedia team with editing Spanish-language features for the club's Cardenales social platforms and website
  • Using Adobe After Effects, supports the video team by adding motion graphics to assigned projects, and or develops motion graphics and animations for social media features
  • Assist with department's process of ingesting and transcoding of video in Avid to ensure proper labeling and archiving of media, which provides a consistent workflow for department's high volume of media
  • Assists with exporting of media for various internal and external needs to ensure output of media conforms to formats required by web and television providers, in addition to proper formatting for archival purposes
  • When needed, support video production staff on shoots
  • Assist with procurement of archival video needed for video news features and other segments to provide consistent and efficient ability to acquire archival video footage necessary for many of the staff's video news features

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication or other discipline that emphasizes visual storytelling and multimedia production
  • 1-3+ years of experience as a videographer and editor using professional grade HD video editing software and equipment 
  • Expert knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Avid Interplay and related systems, and Adobe Media Encoder
  • Excellent understanding of media, sports, and baseball
  • Working knowledge of basic motion graphics production using Adobe After Effects
  • Excellent collaboration, customer service and people skills essential
  • Must be detail-oriented and deadline-focused

 

Education and Experience Preferred (in addition to the above):

  • Master of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication or other discipline that emphasize visual storytelling and multimedia production
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) for television station or related news/sports outlet
  • Intermediate to advanced Spanish-language skills preferred
  • Excellent work ethic and ability to learn quickly with a demonstrated track record of working on a deadline to produce videos of varied lengths' - both short and long-form
  • Must have ability to interact productively and positively with fellow employees in a team environment
