Freelance Multimedia Video Communications Specialist

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position will serve as a part-time multimedia brand journalist responsible for the production of the daily production of Video News Segments, other related feature videos and digital content for the teams website, as well as writing stories and reporting news about the team as part of the Cardinal's expanding brand journalism efforts.    

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Collaborate with each department to develop 3 stories a week to promote fan awareness of team initiatives
  • Responsible for researching, writing, interviewing story subjects, capture visual content by shooting video, voiceovers and standups, and edit stories for multiple platforms

  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research

  • Organize material, determining story emphasis, and writing blog posts to accompany video according to prescribed editorial style

  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories written for website and other social platforms; edit videos for all multimedia and social platforms

  • Appear on video when conducting taped interviews or providing narration as needed

  • Work cooperatively with videographer as needed

  • Upload video to the team's website with detailed metadata attached, write and schedule the accompanying blog post, handle social media posts to drive traffic to the story

  • Maintain an excel spreadsheet production schedule to keep track of assignments and integrate analytics reporting to track the video views and other metrics on each production

  • Upload each video to H5, the team's central digital archive, and use detailed metadata to ensure proper preservation for future use

  • Develop and produce a regular podcast or podcast series

  • Work collaboratively with the Communications department staff to handle social media duties as well as a variety of communication related projects to support the organization.

 

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, or other discipline that emphasize visual storytelling and multimedia production
  • 2-3 years experience as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) in television or related news/sports outlet

  • Creative, self-starter, can work well unsupervised and can produce great results on deadline driven video projects

  • Proficient in using professional grade HD video equipment, at least 2 years experience using Avid or Adobe Premiere video editing systems

  • Basic experience with Adobe AfterEffects, MediaEncoder, and Audition

  • Excellent writing (AP Style) and verbal communication skills.  Must be comfortable in front of a camera

  • Must possess an excellent understanding of media, sports, and baseball

  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.  Ability to travel outside of the US.

  • Excellent collaboration, customer service, and people skills

 

Education and Experience Preferred (in addition to the above):

  • 3-4 years experience as a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) in television or related news/sports outlet

  • A background in radio and television sports reporting

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated track record of working on deadlines to produce videos

  • Ability to interact productively and positively with fellow employees in a team environment

  • Assertive, capable of following leads and interviewing individuals for stories

  • 2-3 years experience posting to social media and posting to online blogs (Wordpress) and other digital platforms

  • 3-4 years of direct experience with Avid editing system or other equivalent non-linear editing systems

  • 2-3 years of direct experience with Adobe AfterEffects and MediaEncoder

  • Demonstrated ability to produce more than one video news story in a single work day

  • Excellent work ethic
