Human Resources Intern- Diverse Internship Program

Summary of Responsibilities

The St. Louis Cardinals are currently seeking a Human Resources (HR) focused intern as a part of the Fall 2019 Diverse Internship Program. This internship will provide the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of human resources while exploring other career opportunities within the front office. This intern will work on specific projects to assist the HR department while receiving on the job training and learning to apply concepts learned through coursework. Projects may include, but not limited to, assistance with recruiting efforts and HR related events, tracking of attendance and acknowledgements for training and performance management, and other similar projects. The intern may also participate in an "Explore Week" during the program. During the Explore Weeks, the intern will work with a selected department to get a better understanding of the department's contribution to the organization and assist them with various tasks.

***This is an office position that requires a person to be at a computer or desk for most of the day. The person must be able to communicate clearly both in person and on the phone. 

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Support the HR department with daily administrative tasks that include: Answering any inquiry phone calls and e-mails, distributing mail, delivering faxes to appropriate HR recipients, and filing any personnel documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assisting the HR team with reviews of information for accuracy or missing information including, but not limited to: Form I-9 processing, Job descriptions, HR and Benefits communications and literature, etc.
  • Tracking employee training completions (handbook, domestic violence prevention, etc.) and assisting with any recruiting & performance management efforts
  • Assisting the HR department with any other administrative duties and projects as needed

Education and Experience Required:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited program at a College or University required with a degree emphasis in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field; at least Junior year status
  • Experience in an office environment, human resources, customer service; or combination of years of experience and education
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good organizational and multi-tasking skills

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited program at a College or University required with a degree emphasis in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field; Senior level status                                                                                                                                              
  • 1 year of experience in an HR/Office environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel
  • Knowledge of HRIS preferred (i.e. UltiPro or similar software)
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
