International Communications Spanish Interpreter (Full-Time)

Summary of Responsibilities:

The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking candidates for our International Communications Spanish Interpreter position in the Communications and Baseball Operations departments. This position will be responsible for serving as the team's Spanish language translator while also supporting the department's business and baseball communication responsibilities, including working mainly with the baseball operations department within the organization to achieve its objectives through effective communication. Primary duties will include Spanish translation assistance for game day media interviews, press conferences, player/coach communication, team meetings, support of other Major League staff including medical, video, travel director, and equipment manager, and other club related events as directed. Provide assistance in areas such as player relations/communications involving marketing/community relations. Must be available to work long hours, including nights, holidays and weekends and be able to travel both domestically and internationally. Must have a strong working knowledge of baseball and related statistics.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Available to provide Spanish translation for player interviews both prior to and following all spring training, regular season and postseason workouts & games
• Travel with the team for all road games, including spring training, regular season and postseason
• Attend club-related events covered by local and/or national media at which players are present and require Spanish translation
• Assist players, as-needed, with questions regarding logistics such as transportation, lodging, etc.
• Participate in coaches/player meetings and facilitate two-way communication regarding game strategy, work plans, other
• Provide assistance to clubhouse personnel including Travel Director and Video department with day-to-day duties
• Provide assistance with player relations matters in conjunction with community relations, business functions and communications
• Work with Spanish speaking players to identify opportunities to enhance the team and player's marketability/visibility both locally and nationally
• Assist, as necessary, with departmental media relations duties
• Provide assistance as primary point person for the new player request system
• Assist with Baseball Operations projects as requested

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management or related field
• At least one full season of prior experience working in a professional sports environment, including locker room/clubhouse environment
• Excellent Spanish and English fluency
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish
• Excellent ability to speak both English and Spanish on camera and in front of large group settings
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of baseball and media is essential
• Excellent ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity and discretion

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Master's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management or related field with 3-4+ years of experience working in baseball at the minor league or Major League level
• At least one full season of prior experience working in a professional sports environment, including locker room/clubhouse environment
• Exceptional Spanish and English fluency
• Exceptional writing and oral communication skills in English and Spanish
• Exceptional ability to speak both English and Spanish on camera and in front of large group setting
• Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional knowledge of baseball and media
• Exceptional ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity and discretion
