Multimedia Editing Specialist

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Multimedia Editing Specialist is an experienced video editor with an eye for detail and quality control who also has a high capacity for troubleshooting issues related to production equipment and nonlinear editing software; with expert knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Avid Interplay or related systems, and Adobe AfterEffects. The Multimedia Editing Specialist supports the Multimedia Unit by ensuring optimal workflow of media from field shoots to archive. The Multimedia Editing Specialist's primary responsibility is mastering episodes of the weekly Cardinals Insider television show. In addition, the position edits and shoots features as assigned in support of the club's content needs.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Serve as the primary video and post-production editor for all episodes of the Cardinals Insider television show, as well as other productions to ensure a consistent, knowledgeable full-time staff person accomplishes one of the department's most important weekly editing tasks.
  • Ensure delivery of final show file to stations and online platforms.
  • Troubleshoots possible issues as needed to ensure Cardinals Insider can be delivered efficiently to stations and online platforms.
  • Troubleshoot video equipment and software as needed to ensure Multimedia Unit staff can work efficiently with media in a fast-paced environment to produce a high volume of quality content.
  • Assemble one video and/or motion graphics feature a week during the show's in-season and 2-3 in the off-season, promoting fan awareness of team initiatives to help each department in the Cardinals organization achieve their objectives related to video storytelling.
  • Produce specialized motion graphics and other templates for on-going video use. Work solo or with a team as assigned
  • Assist with exporting of media for various internal and external needs to ensure output of media conforms to formats required by web and television providers, in addition to proper formatting for archival purposes.
  • Assist with department's process of ingesting and transcoding video in Avid to ensure proper labeling and archiving of media, which provides a consistent workflow for department's high volume of media and maintains relationship with Scoreboard production's video personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of videos and corresponding data produced by the Multimedia Unit using the department's Wrike software program as well as the shared drive to support a collaborative, busy work environment.
  • Assist with procurement of archival video needed for features and other segments, which in turn increases productivity for full and part-time staff. Supports department's archiving efforts.
  • Assist full and part-time staff with video production training, as necessary, to provide needed support for full and part-time staff acclimating to department's video production workflow and processing.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience as a videographer and editor using professional grade HD video editing software and equipment to produce both short and long-form video content for web, cable, and television media outlets
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot video equipment and nonlinear editing software
  • Expert knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Avid Interplay and related systems
  • Knowledgeable about various file types and closed captioning processes
  • Working knowledge of basic motion graphics production using Adobe AfterEffects
  • Excellent collaboration, customer service and people skills are essential
  • Must be detail-oriented and deadline-focused with excellent work ethic
  • Must have ability to interact productively and positively with fellow employees in a team environment

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Master of Arts in Journalism, Multimedia Journalism, Cinema, Video, Mass Communication or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience working for a broadcast outlet or related news/sports outlet
  • Some Spanish-language proficiency is helpful
  • Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated track record of working on deadline to produce videos of varied lengths, both short and long-form
  • Expert level understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Assertive and capable of following leads is desired
  • Producing experience is a bonus. Avid Certification in Media Composer or Asset Management a plus
  • Previous experiences teaching, mentoring, and/or training others in video shooting and editing
  • An excellent understanding of media, sports, and baseball is preferred
