Museum Collections Assistant (Part-Time)

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Museum Collections Assistant will assist FT museum curatorial staff with day-to-day collections tasks: artifcat cataloging and processesing, photography, object numbering, inventory and location changes, assisting with artifact storage housing projects. The Museum Collections Assistant will also support Curatorial staff with museum exhibit-based tasks as needed, registrarial activities such as organizing and mailing loan renewals and deeds of gift, and other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assist the Collections Specialist with museum collections activities that include: cataloging and processing, artifact relocation projects and location updates, object photography, numbering of objects, and overall collections care.
  • Assist the Curator and Collections Specialist with preparation of artifacts for exhibits, rotations, or other museum updates as needed to enhance fan experiences.
  • Participate in museum programming "Artifact Spotlights", which is an opportunity to engage with museum visitors and fans by creating a short 5-7 minute presentation about an artifact(s) that relates to an event or person(s) in Cardinals history. Artifact topics are planned prior to the beginning of the season and are presented every Friday afternoon before a home game.
  • Assist the Curator with the organization of documentation of donations, loans, and collections purchases. Assist Curator in maintaining up to date loan agreements and contact information for lenders for annual loan renewals.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public History, Museum Studies, or Anthropology or similar degree
  • 1-2 years of working in a museum setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft office Excellent verbal and written skills
  • General baseball knowledge
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to find and evaluate useful information
  • Some public speaking

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Public History, Museum Studies, or Anthropology or similar degree
  • 2+ years of working in a museum setting
  • Trained in artifact handling and Museum Best Practices
  • Experience with PastPerfect or other CMS systems
  • Knowledge of cataloging museum collections processes
  • Familiar with photography, DLSR cameras, and photoshop
  • Knowledge of Cardinals baseball history
  • Analytical skills in regards to information and research
  • Excellent presentation skills
