Publications Vendor Internship (Part-Time)

Summary of Responsibilities:

Are you a college student who loves the St. Louis Cardinals? Do you enjoy interacting with people, especially baseball fans? Are you looking to gain experience for your career in sales, marketing or sports business management. Do you want to practice sales techniques and strategies, analyze sales data and gain an understanding of the professional sports environment?

The St. Louis Cardinals Publications Department is seeking enterprising and energetic students for their Publication Vendor Internship program, which will take place during the baseball season (regular and potential postseason)*. This internship enables participants to manage and grow sales of the team's flagship publication, Cardinals Magazine, as well as the Cardinals Yearbook and Scorecard, by serving as game day Publication Vendors at Busch Stadium. Through this internship, students will acquire hands-on sales and marketing experience through duties that include, but are not limited to, development/implementation of team-wide sales techniques and strategies, concluding with the presentation of a season-end analysis of the department's overall performance.

* Students must be available to work at least 90 percent of the Cardinals home games starting in Early May through mid-August (averaging four hours per game) and provide postgame reports from each game as assigned. Internship could be extended through the end of postseason play.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Sell products at gates during games, with occasional assignments observing other vendors to aid in developing an effective, team-wide sales approach
  • Keep accurate counts of inventory and sales revenue for multiple products.
  • Continually assess promotional efforts and review ongoing sales data to aid in the formulation and execution of fresh sales and marketing strategies, and make adjustments to existing methods
  • Adjust "in the moment" to day-of-game crowd trends to maximize sales opportunities, while bringing an engaging, vocal "presence" to sales booth
  • Meet regularly with the Publications Department for guidance and discussion regarding the state of in-park sales throughout the season
  • Assist the Publications Department with any other administrative and/or game day duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Current enrollment at an accredited college or university with a minimum junior level status, with a major in Sports Business Management, PR, Marketing, Communications, Business or a related field
  • Passion for Cardinals baseball that's conveyed by an outgoing personality.
  • Prior retail/customer service experience with superior organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and money-management skills
  • Ability to stand throughout shift and periodically lift boxes of product (up to 25 pounds), with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities as per ADA requirements.
  • Effective communication skills to describe and discuss product features clearly and accurately.
