Staff Accountant

Summary of Responsibilities:

The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking candidates for its Staff Accountant position. This position is responsible for reconciling daily ticket sales to bank account activity for cash, credit card and ACH payments and responsible for the non-ticket cash receipt function. Position will also be responsible for the accounting for the organization's gift card program as well as reconciling service charge settlements with TDC. This position will serve as administrator of the St. Louis Cardinals license plate program in connection with MO Department of Motor Vehicles. This position will also accumulate, record and analyze financial information related to ancillary revenue streams of the organization. Responsible for timely and accurate month-end and year-end close procedures including preparing journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and account analysis.

Essential Functions of the Job:

• Perform Cash Receipts functions for all companies by preparing deposits and entering cash receipts into accounting software platform
• Reconcile daily transaction reports to bank activity for cash, credit card and ACH transactions related to ticket sales
• Perform accounting duties related to organization's gift card and ticket stored value programs
• Reconcile weekly settlement statements of third party ticket sales platform provider
• Administer Team License Plate Program by receiving and processing orders for initial purchase and renewals
• Coordinate with various departments and individuals to record, report and analyze ancillary revenue streams throughout the organization
• Prepare month-end and year-end journal entries as well as various reconciliations and analysis of assigned general ledger accounts while adhering to monthly and year-end close procedures and deadlines
• Execute the individual and department goals that support strategic and operational initiatives
• Partake in various process improvement projects within the accounting department and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required:

• Associates Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field; or a combination of experience and education
• 2+ years of general accounting/bookkeeping experience
• Experience dealing with and reconciling large amounts of financial transactions
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
• Proficient in accounting software packages and Microsoft Suite
• Ability to meet strict deadlines under time pressure
• Strong communication skills
• Self-motivated to achieve optimal results with integrity and high ethical standards
• Dependable, consistent and accurate in carrying out responsibilities

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field; or a combination of experience and education
• 2+ years general accounting experience
• Experience with accounting for ticket sales in the sports or entertainment industries a plus
• Experience dealing with and reconciling large amounts of financial transactions
• Strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
• Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Suite
• Highly motivated and comfortable working independently
• Able to communicate accounting and financial information into common language
• Strong ability to prioritize and possess excellent time management skills
• Excel in analytical thinking and reasoning
